Founded in 1983, Brown Capital Management is one of the nation's leading investment management firms It is one of the oldest African American owned investment management firms in the United States. As of year-end 2002, the company had $4.3 billion of assets under management and 22 employees. The company's clients are national in scope and primarily institutional in nature, i.e., private and public pension plans, endowment funds, foundations, etc. There are four separate account services and five mutual funds offered to investors. Growth at a Reasonable Price "GARP" is the investment approach across all of its investment services. Even though "GARP" is a commonly used term in the investment business today, it was not a distinctively identifiable investment style in 1983. Eddie C. Brown

Mr. Brown has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Howard University, a Masters of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from New York University, and a Masters of Business Administration from Indiana University Graduate School of Business. He also has two professional designations, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and Charted Investment Counselor (CIC). He has been very active in the community for many years and served on numerous boards. He has had gubernatorial appointments to the Baltimore County Judicial Nominating Commission, and the Maryland Economic Development Commission, and an appointment by the U. S. Secretary of Labor to the ERISA Advisory Council. Currently he serves on the board of the Walters Art Museum, and was appointed by the Mayor of Baltimore to the board of the East Baltimore Development Corporation.
